The Onigbongbo House of Citizens

OST, in partnership with the people of Onigbongbo and the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area established the Onigbongbo House of Citizens (HOC), the first of its kind in Lagos. The HOC is an avenue for members of the Onigbongbo community, community leaders and local government officials to deliberate and prioritise the community development needs. The HOC comprises the Oba of Onigbongbo, representatives of Community Based Organizations (CBOs), Civil Societies, Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy, Ministry of Rural Development, the Media and the Private Citizens of the Onigbongbo Community.

Objectives

  • To create a network that is apolitical and permanent, which will serve as a monitoring and evaluating body for developmental projects in Onigbongbo
  • To stimulate Civic Participation in Onigbongbo LCDA
  • To draft a five year developmental plan for Onigbongbo.

Where we are now

The HOC has identified four thematic areas namely: primary health care, basic education, sanitation and women and youth empowerment as its areas of interest. Members of the HOC have been divided into distinct committees along the areas of interest of the House. The committees will serve as will serve as an advisory body to the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area on its specific area and will also serve as the monitoring and evaluating board for any developmental project carried out in relation to its thematic area.

 

Youth against Examination Malpractice

The programme is aimed at identifying, examining and documenting the root cause of the examination malpractice in Nigeria with the view of implementing advocacy activities aimed at discouraging the trend.

Objectives

  • To monitor significant national examinations and bring cases of examination malpractice to the of the appropriate authorities for prosecution;
  • Review implementation of existing legislation on examination malpractice
  • use insights generated from the review and research to conduct advocacy activities ;
  • rigorously research and document the state of the educational system (including the quality and style of education delivered, and ratio of teachers to students in the country) and examining if this contributes to examination malpractice

Where we are now

OST is presently implementing its advocacy activities aimed at students, teachers and parents to raise awareness on the consequences of engaging or aiding examination malpractice.
